Soy Milk and Fried Bread Stick 豆漿和油條

Today while i was stuck in traffic, i was wondering why Taiwanese people gossip so much. It's like the whole natione can't live without it, and the mass media just feed tons of gossip to the public. Anyway, I came up with a theory.

We as Taiwanese ppl aren't so open in nature but we like to feel connected with our friends. So whenever we talk to our friends, we usually talk about our common friend' business first. We are shy to talk about ourselves because it's hard to be open and vulnerable, so we talk about our friends. However, there isn't really much to talk about since we don't really know that much about our "friend". The result?　We speculate and make up stuffs to talk about. (aka gossip) It's a lot easier to talk about other people's problems than our own problems, isn't it? so I guess the origianal intent was good. As Taiwanese, we care and want to stay in touch with friends and family. Somehow it got twisted and becomes endless cycles of speculations and assumptions. Ask yourself, whenever you meet your friends the next time, what stuff do you ususally talk about first?
