What is your deepest fear?

What is your deepest fear?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking,

So that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We were all meant to shine as children do.

It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.

As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

- Timo Cruz in "Coach Carter"

In the movie Coach Carter, Kenny Carter(Samuel Jackson) kept asking his student Timo what is his deepest fear. After witnessing his closest cousin got shot and killed in front of him, Timo begged Carter for the second time to get back on the team and responded to Carter with the above quote. To be honest, I have no idea what he is talking about when watching the first time. Just thought there might be more deeper meaning, i went back to read it again and thought I might throw it out there for you guys to think about it too.

After thinking about it more, i am still not quite sure how it applies to Timo and the kids in the movies, but I found it very relevant to Christians, especially Taiwanese Christians. In Taiwanese culture, we tend to play down our own strength as we are always taught to be humble. It is Often Christians do that to their faith too, especially in a non-Christian setting. Christians are almost invisible in Taiwanese circle. I mean people do know that there are churches and Christians. However, very few non-Christians have real interactions with Christians as if Christians only do things within the Christian circle or they hide their Christians identities when around non-Christians. I understand we sometimes do it because we don't' want to offend people with our "religious hat" but it shouldn't stop us from loving others. As the quote said, if we liberate ourselves from our own "fear", we can encourage others to shed their fears too. anyway. just some random thoughts. anyway.. maybe you find it encouraging in your own way.

ooopss..just found out this is actuall from a lady named Marianne Williamson
not by Timo Cruz or the playwright
